Founded in 1979 in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, Nanpu Kogei began as a wholesaler and now crafts its own bamboo goods in the nearby town of Hiji. Its craftspeople divide the work, from shaving bamboo into thin, even strips to weaving traditional patterns such as ajiro by hand. Light and breathable, their bento boxes and baskets deepen to a warm amber with use, bringing natural warmth to everyday life.
